In the beginning it's going to be annoying to sign up for all the blog-linking services. So here's a tip on how to do it:
First, get a Feedburner RSS feed. They're fast and easy and indexed with a whole lot of other feeds so that's some instant promo right there.
You'll want to get this first because a lot of the blog linking sites will want to know it.
Also make an ad banner 468 x 60 pixels in dimension; they'll want that too. Host it somewhere.
Write up a 250 word description of your site and its purpose; I based mine on the intro post here. they will want that too.
Put all that, the URL or your banner and the URL of your site in a text file and leave that open as you sign up. You'll cut and paste back and forth and save a whole heck of a lot of time.
